Seva and Tyaga – Service and Sacrifice – that was Swami Vivekananda’s clarion call to the youth of our country… Also, it was he who said that it is possible to attain to the highest realization of the “Self” by serving others… As he said:
Be grateful to the man you help, think of him as God. Is it not a great privilege to be allowed to worship God by helping your fellow men?
In the short video above, Dr. R. Balasubramaniam tells us how if we are struggling to make sense of what Swami Vivekananda actually meant then the walk of discovery, hope, and inspiration… an 8-day walk through rural Bharat, garnished with inspired talks that shall…touch soul, stimulate thought, & motivate action…
The Walk that we will be embarking on from Dec-22 through 29 is an attempt to re-connect ourselves to the realities of “real” Bharat – an 8-day walk through rural Bharat garnished with inspiring talks, interactions and a chance to interact with Dr. R. Balasubramaniam, Dr. Balu someone who has lived and worked for several years among remote forest-based tribal communities, founder SVYM and GRAAM. A widely respected development activist, leadership trainer, thinker, and writer, Dr. Balu has uniquely been able to combine a vast development sector experience with studying and teaching at the world’s leading schools of policy and development including Harvard and Cornell.
In the short 60-second clip below Dr. Balu succinctly lays out one of the objectives of the Walk – how do we begin to understand the inequities that we see in the world around us and how do we bring about the change we want to see in the World…
What does it mean to walk within? It simply means to take a good long look at oneself, to question our priorities, to ask ourselves, if we are making a difference, however small to ourselves and to others…
In the 90-second clip below, Dr. R. Balasubramaniam, Founder Swami Vivekananda Youth Movement (SVYM) and Grassroots Research and Advocacy Movement (GRAAM) who will be leading the Walk, shares his vision for the Walk.
This is a walk of discovery, hope, and inspiration – an 8-day walk through rural Bharat, garnished with inspired talks by someone who has “been there” and “done it”
This Walk is an 8-day exploration of the real
“Bharat” – both within and without… an understanding as much of ourselves as it
is of our own “Self”. The Walk & the interwoven Talks will provide
participants with an opportunity to reflect, question, pause, and ponder over
what development actually means, what it means to be poor, what it takes to
build Human and Social Capital, and what it means to truly democratize
In addition, participants get to visit heritage structures & learn about our shared culture and get a peek into the cultural ethos of Bharat…
